it started with a pair of pants

A pair of polka dot pants. And then there was a pretty polka dot dress. And they were mine. But now I want more. More polka dots, I say! More polka dots today!

golden globe beauty

Speaking of someone who can pull off a pixie cut, did anyone see Michelle Williams when watching the Golden Globes on Sunday? I thought she looked darling as always. Love her style.

hair confessions

The thing is, I’ve always been a long hair kind of gal. The kind of girl who would go for more than a year without so much as stepping into a salon. But, after a series of awkward incidents, I’ve ended up with very very short hair. I’d like to say that I’ve been rocking the pixie cut, but in all honesty I haven’t quite figured out how to pull it off. And I suppose it really doesn’t help that the hair on the right side of my head is perfectly straight, while hair on the left side is super curly!

The other evening I was searching for hair inspiration on pinterest and I decided to embrace the short hair look… by cutting my hair myself… Uh oh, I know. Really I didn’t cut that much – I was just trying to avoid that mullet Muppet look that happens when growing out your hair – but I ended up with something a little less French chic and a little more dude with an 80’s perm. Needless to say I could use some touching up by a professional.

If only I could look as effortlessly lovely and chic (and French!) as Audrey Tautou with her short ‘do.

once upon a glamorous winter

I first stumbled across this gorgeous winter 2011/2012 collection by Russian designer Ulyana Sergeenko a few months ago, and just fell in love with it again while organizing all my saved images. It’s boho chic meets vintage 1940s glam, with maybe a dash of little-red-riding-hood-on-her-way-to-grandmother’s-house. If I could look this striking all winter long, I would gladly welcome the cold weather instead of hiding under piles of blankets like I’m currently doing!

happy 2012

Happy New Year! I realize that I’m a bit late in wishing well for the new year, but I’m trying to embrace the “it’s never too late” motto when it comes to all things, so here’s to 2012! I have high high hopes for this year. Truth be told, the last couple years were a bit rough to say the least and I think that 2012 sounds like an auspicious year – Mayan calendars and doomsday fanatics aside. I usually don’t make big resolutions for the new year, but there are a few things I’d like to work on this year:

  • get healthier and more fit (you have this resolution too? you don’t say…)
  • learn some new recipes and cook something fancy
  • make time to sketch and/or write each day
  • read more – lately it seems like there are just so many books that I want to read! I’m currently reading The Night Circus which I’m really enjoying.
  • some big changes and creative endeavors that I’m not quite prepared to reveal here just yet, but here’s hoping that 2012 will be a BIG year.
  • blog more, of course – I would very much like to post to this little blog on a more regular schedule, so hold me to it!

And if it would be at all possible to fit some travel into this year, that would be amazing. I do realize that traveling requires funding of sorts and I might need to work on that part first, but at midnight on New Years I still dragged my suitcase with me down the street (in the cold and past some strange looks, I might add) in the hopes of ensuring that this will be a year of travel. It worked for me once and I’m hoping it works for me again. I hope that everyone is having a wonderful new year so far!
